ReLEAF presented at the Romanian Water Forum 2026

ReLEAF was recently presented at the Romanian Water Forum 2026 in Bucharest, one of the region’s key events dedicated to water management, environmental innovation, and sustainable resource use.

During the event, Dr. Oscar Prado from our partner AERIS Tecnologías Ambientales introduced the project’s objectives and ongoing activities, highlighting how ReLEAF is working to transform organic waste streams into bio-based fertilisers and other valuable products for agriculture.

The presentation showcased the different technologies being developed within the project to recover nutrients and biostimulants from resources that are often considered waste, including sewage sludge, agri-food residues, food waste, and fish processing by-products. These recovered materials are then used to produce innovative bio-based fertilisers that can help reduce reliance on conventional fertiliser sources while supporting more circular nutrient management.

The event brought together stakeholders from the water, agriculture, research, and policy sectors, providing an opportunity to discuss current challenges and opportunities related to resource recovery and the circular economy. Discussions highlighted the growing importance of recovering nutrients from waste streams, reducing resource losses, and creating local value chains that support both environmental and economic sustainability.

Participation in the Romanian Water Forum allowed ReLEAF to share its progress with a diverse audience and exchange experiences with other initiatives working on sustainable resource management across Europe.

As the project continues, ReLEAF will further develop and validate its nutrient recovery technologies and bio-based fertiliser products through pilot-scale demonstrations and field trials, contributing to more circular and resilient agricultural systems.

The consortium would like to thank the organisers of the Romanian Water Forum for providing a valuable platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange among stakeholders working towards more sustainable approaches to water and resource management.
