ReLEAF was recently showcased on the latest issue of IndustriAmbiente, a Spanish is a scientific-technical publication important in the dissemination of projects, technologies and current events in the environmental sector.
The aim of the article was to share information about the project and highlight its main objectives:
- Optimization of new technologies for the extraction of fertilizer ingredients from alternative sources
- Use of biodegradable and safe materials as coating for controlled release fertilizers, avoiding the generation of microplastics and other contaminants that can damage soil health
- Reduction of fertilizer use and nutrient losses using controlled-release biobased fertilizers
- Using agronomic evaluations to ensure the viability of biofertilizers
- Reducing Europe’s dependence on imported materials by establishing local, circular and profitable supply chains
- Engaging stakeholders to ensure industrial adoption and social acceptance
Additionally, the article gave an overview of the current situation of fertilizers in Europe, the industry as biorefinery, and the overall challenges in obtaining and marketing biobased fertilizers.
